Description
Spalted beech coffee table with internal live edge and solid ash frame. The table measures 76cm x 50cm and stands 37.5cm high.
Please note the table in the photos has sold but I can make more to order, including bespoke sizes. Please get in touch for more details.
The solid, spalted beech tabletop is formed from two live edge boards. Where the two boards meet, an organic shaped, internal live edge opening is formed. Spalting is the attractive pattern of dark and light areas within the solid beech top.
The tabletop is supported on a solid ash frame with tapered legs. This ash frame is constructed entirely with two types of traditional mortice and tenon joints. The legs are splayed and tapered in two directions. A further taper is added at the base of each leg to give the appearance of touching the floor lightly.
The tabletop is traditionally fixed to the frame with solid ash ‘buttons’. Buttons are ‘L’ shaped pieces of wood which enable seasonal movement of the tabletop. Wood is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water from the air and therefore expands and contracts with the seasons.
The table is finely sanded and finished with matt, hard wax.
Every item has a maker’s mark and unique tally style number on the base. The maker’s mark is an abstract axe approximately 2cm long.
